Welcome to my portfolio! To me, "I write worlds" means embracing the diverse capacities of writing to the fullest, and using it to help create a better world. Creative work is one of my greatest passions and I have always seen myself as a writer: a playwright, poet, fiction writer, and essayist. I believe good writing builds awareness of new possibilities, experiences, and perspectives, and should engage and set free the reader's imagination. I have published and produced a variety of pieces, and find inspiration around me every day.
Through professional training in grammar and style, copyediting, developmental editing, and participating on an editorial team, I have developed skills as a savvy and detail-oriented editor. I am familiar with the AP Stylebook and Chicago Manual of Style, and have experience corresponding with authors to help them shape a piece of writing in order to best represent their own voice and ideas. In May 2016, I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Professional Writing and a focus on editing and publishing. As well, I care deeply about engaging with the communities around me. My second degree is in the Arts and Humanities, and I bring extensive experience working with schools and community organizations. As a collaborator, I have mentored middle-school students through City Year New York, as well as coordinating outreach for the RCAH Center for Poetry, and conducting research abroad. I believe the arts are for all of us, and that everyone has a unique voice and perspective to contribute. I welcome collaboration and am also available for freelance work. Please contact me if you would like to work together; I look forward to connecting with you! |
